Family Selection Process

Application and Selection are the first steps!

The Habitat for Humanity Family Selection Committees uses the following criteria to identify qualified families.

  1. Need:

    Need is determined by your family income and living conditions. Is your family income within these guidelines:

    We want to help those in greatest need and therefore will make a home visit to determine what conditions may make it imperative for your family to move into safe, decent, affordable housing.

  2. Ability to Pay:
  3. Can you afford the monthly house payment? These costs include mortgage, property taxes, and homeowner's insurance. Typical costs can be discussed with you.

  4. Willingness to Partner:

    Partnering is defined as your willingness to put time and energy into acquiring, building or renovating your home. This willingness encompasses a specific number hours of "sweat equity" or actual work done on a Habitat home. For a family with two adults, 300 hours are required. For a family with one adult, 250 hours are required. Family and friends can contribute half of the sweat equity.
